I made biscuits on Thursday and used the rolling pin my Uncle Dick made for me. He stamped his name on it, also the date (6/20/1989), and also the words Pecan – Haw River. So he made it from wood he and Dad got from Dad’s property in Burlington!
Then I made tea and had biscuits and jam with the jam Amy and Silas made and sent me. I used my mother’s china.
This experience has so many layers of memories! Wow. The memories of the back yard and the Haw River in Burlington. The tire swing Dad hung and all the pushing I did for my two sons on that swing! All the bonfires and family times there. Even hanging laundry on the outdoor line Dad strung, and the smell of the sun in the clothes when you brought them in.
Amy and Silas are amazing cooks and live in Colorado. They sent their love in those jars of jam!
Dad bought the china for his new bride off a ship docked in the Panama Canal. I imagine young love in an exotic setting. Then there are the family dinners and the teas my teenage friends and I had in Roanoke so long ago! We even wore our prom dresses when we had our teas, we were so fancy! They are such sweet memories.
Things do have connections with your heart and help you remember all the love and important moments of life.
